Corporate: The NVBT is an association, that also represents the Dutch National Plant Collection Foundation (SNP), the other network of botanic gardens in The Netherlands.
Aims: The NVBT is the national network of botanic gardens and arboreta, and other documented plant collections. The SNP is the national network of botanic gardens that maintain one or more specialisations that constitute the national plant collection.
  • NVBT aims: coordination of activitis of common interest or concern; safeguarding of minimum standards by applying membership criteria to all gardens;
  • SNP aims: conservation of ca. 100 high-quality subcollections present in individual botanic gardens (and arboreta) by application of quality collection criteria. For individual collections see www.botanischetuinen.nl/content/plantencollecties
Activities: NVBT: annually 2 general meetings for management / curators, meeting for garden staff, Education Working Group meetings, topical workshops, joint outing social event.
SNP: annually 2 board meetings, 2 meetings of member gardens concerning the National Plant Collection (NPC), visits of gardens to check NPC collections (on a 5-year rotation).
BGCI-Netherlands capacity-building workshop relating to collection management for all members of either NVBT or SNP.
Criteria for membership: NVBT: criteria for membership to identify real botanic gardens, and maintain minimum standards;
SNP: membership through acceptance into the National Plant Collection of at least one specialization, through application of quality criteria pertaining to the plant collection and its curation.
